Sleep Apnea Diagnosis

Sleep apnea is a medical condition; therefore, it must be diagnosed by a medical doctor or sleep physician. Your knowledgeable doctor, Dr. Pamela Powell, can help to recognize the signs and symptoms of sleep apnea and works with a board certified sleep physician in your behalf through Empower Sleep.

To diagnose sleep apnea, you may undergo a sleep study. During the sleep study, you will be connected to machines that monitor activity of the brain, heart, eyes and muscles during a seven-hour sleep period. Patients suffering from sleep apnea often display interruptions or abnormalities in brain, heart, eye and muscle activity during sleep, as well as a decreased amount of oxygen saturation (oxyhemoglobin) in the blood. Your physician will monitor these interruptions and abnormalities to determine if you have sleep apnea. We can then work with you and your medical physician to create a treatment plan and provide you with solutions that will help you breathe easily at night and get the rest you need to enjoy a healthy quality of life.
